Kellie's Castle is situated in Batu Gajah, Perak (toll exit Simpang Pulai), Malaysia around 20 minutes driving distance from Ipoh.
The unfinished castle was built by William Kellie Smith. Stories from various sources say that it was either a gift for his wife or a home for his son.
William Kellie Smith was born in 1870 in Kellas, Moray Firth, Scotland. He moved to Malaysia, and married his Scottish spouse, Agnes.
In 1915 he planed to build a huge castle near Batu Gajah, Perak. It was known that William Kellie Smith employs laborers brought in from India to build the Kellie's Castle.
William Kellie Smith died in Portugal of pneumonia, urban legend has it that his spirit roams at night in the castle.
After his death, his wife Agnes returned to Scotland and sold the castle to a British company.
At the moment, the castle due to its architecture and story has became one of the tourist attraction in Malaysia.
